Qualifications overview

The CDI is the leading independent professional body for practitioners working in careers education, information, advice, guidance and career management. We encourage and support individuals working in the sector (members and non-members alike) to attain the highest education, training and professional standards in career development.

Lead Body for the Sector

As the lead body for the sector, we manage the Register of Career Development Professionals, also referred to as the Professional Register and Register. The UK Government is supportive of the Register and although registration is voluntary, qualified practitioners are strongly encouraged to join.

Awarding Body Status

The CDI is an awarding body for several major qualifications including the Qualification in Career Guidance/Development (QCG/QCGD) and the Qualification in Career Coaching (QCC).

Training and events

The CDI provides a wide range of CPD and training opportunities that are of benefit to members and the wider career development sector. Each year we survey members to identify their training needs. The programme includes:

  • Traditional one-day themed conferences – eg HE Advisers Conference; Student Conference; Careers Educators Conference
  • Skills workshops and training days – eg Practical Career Guidance Skills; Personal Branding – the key to getting that ideal job; Demystifying Career Coaching; Current expectations on schools relating to 14-19 education etc
  • On-line webinars – eg The importance of the Register and Recording your CPD
  • Annual CDI Conference and Exhibition – covered in a separate paper
  • National conferences with partners – e.g. National Career Guidance Show; Total Professions Conference
